Due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, exports of Byadgi chilli to Gulf countries have been severely disrupted. More than 1,000 containers worth around ₹350 crore are currently stranded at Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port as shipping operations to the Gulf region have been temporarily halted.
Byadgi chilli, known for its deep red colour and mild pungency, has strong demand in international markets, especially in the Gulf. Nearly 40% of the chilli traded in the Byadgi market is exported to countries like UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The halt in shipments is causing concern among exporters, though the chilli is currently stored safely in containers and cold storage.
If the disruption continues, exporters may face financial losses and market uncertainty.
